P/T Children’s Librarian
The South Plainfield Public Library is looking for a creative, energetic and enthusiastic individual to assist in the children's department of a newly renovated, busy public library. This is a part time position with set, regular hours.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Planning and implementing a variety of programs (story times, puppet shows, book discussions etc) for pre through elementary school aged children.
Promoting library programs, materials, databases and services to children and/or their caregivers.
Providing reference and reader’s advisory services to children and/or their caregivers.
Providing assistance with internet access, library databases, and the online catalog
Assisting with collection development activities.
Qualifications:
Excellent interpersonal skills
Familiarity with both classic and contemporary children’s literature
Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and concisely
Attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
Able to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment
Knowledge of, and experience with current library technologies (including automated systems, online resources, and Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Publisher)
An MLS from an ALA accredited institution and a NJ Professional Librarian’s Certificate (please note that MLS students with the appropriate experience will also be considered)
This is a Civil Service position, NJ residency is required.
Hours: (19.75 per week)
Mondays 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Tuesdays: 1:15 PM – 6:00 PM

Wednesdays: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Saturdays: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Salary:

Professional Librarians – minimum of $27.90 per hour

MLS Students – will be hired as a Library Intern and salary will be adjusted accordingly.
