Today Nutrition information is shared rapidly via the internet and smart phones. People of all age groups are seeking out accurate, useful Nutrition information to improve their own or their families’ health and lifestyles. It is imperative that we, the Vermont Nutrition Experts at VAND continue to get the message to them in a timely manner and in a user friendly format. We know that Registered Dietitians are researchers, educators and service providers that are key in the never ending battle of Obesity and other underlying Chronic Disease prevention and management. What better time to be an active member of VAND? I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with RD’s from all over the state as President of VAND and share my previous experiences, gain new ones and continue my growth and evolution.

Statement of Purpose:
During my second year of the MSD program, our class did an exercise on providing each other with feedback on what we deemed to be other students’ positive professional traits. My classmates commented that I was efficient and organized. As I read the description for VAND secretary, I was reminded of this interaction because such qualities will be important for the role of secretary to operate at a high standard.
In a past job, I was responsible for meeting minutes for a diverse practitioner staff that included a doctor of osteopath, massage therapists, physical therapist, and athletic trainers at an occupational rehab facility. These meetings required strong listening and organization skills as the meetings were fast paced and often switched between subjects. Additionally, I was responsible for meeting minutes during my food service management rotation at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
As a new dietitian, I am eager to learn more about the internal processes of VAND and connect with other RDs on a professional level. Since I am from Vermont and my family lives here, I plan to practice in Vermont for many years. Being secretary of VAND would provide a great vantage point to learn about various positions within VAND and have a greater understanding of those roles. My plan is to be involved with VAND for many years with the goal of holding various VAND positions in the future to expand my own personal knowledge and skills as well as become involved in the Vermont dietetic and nutrition community.
My organizational skills, past experience as a note taker, eagerness to learn, and willingness to commit time and energy to VAND both in the present and future make me a strong candidate for secretary.
