Literally bear means to support. A load-bearing wall is a wall in a building
that takes the weight. If you knock out a load-bearing wall, the building will
collapse. A component in a machine could be a stress-bearing component.
It is designed to be strong enough to bear the stress.
Sometimes when the horrible music goes on too long, we say, 'I can't
bear it.'
