To end means to finish.
Up
most often means the same. So to end up
means the definite, last, final, end result of something or someone.
'What happened to Mrs Mouse?'
'She ended up in an old people's home, terrorising everyone.'
END UP
Two-word verb without an object
No problem.
face
(face, faced, faced)
Your face is the part in front of your head where most of your personality
lives. When you face something you turn your face to it. Sometimes this is
an act of courage.
face up to
If you face something that is bigger than you are, you face
up
to it. This is
always brave. In fact, a coward is somebody who never faces up to
anything.
It is human nature to respect and admire someone who faces up to a
tragedy, for a example.
Three-word verb

fall


(fall, fell, fallen)
What happens to things when nothing holds them up.
fall about
One of the meanings of
about
is 'all over the place'. Why did we fall all
over the place? Because we were laughing so hard that we couldn't stand
up. Have you ever seen a child - or an adult - fall off a chair from laughing
so much?
One of my favourite verbs.

fall apart
When something falls apart, it collapses. Its component parts separate.
Imagine a bridge in an earthquake.
For smaller things, we say
come apart
.

fall away
Music can fall away to nothing. Just like
die away
it means that the music
gradually disappears. It feels as if it is slowly falling to earth.

fall back
This means the same as
drop back
. When you fall
back
in a race you are
losing.

fall back on
When things become difficult we sometimes have to fall
back
on our
reserves, like a fat man in a famine. We have to go back to an earlier
place.
Oh, dear. The washing machine's
broken down
. I'm on holiday, so you
kids will have to fall back on washing everything by hand.
Three-word verb
No problem.


fall behind
This idea is really similar to
fall back
and
drop back
but we use it more for
the race of life. If a child falls behind at school, his parents are not happy.
Some people
get ahead
and others fall behind. In fact, there used to be a
political slogan in the United States about education. No child left behind.

No problem.
