drop in, drop in on
Mora lives up the street. She's always dropping in for a cup of tea.
When angels visit you

your home, they drop in from Heaven. You, of
course, feel exactly the same way when a friend comes to visit you.
Now we're here in Ealing, why don't we drop in on Ken? He'd love to see
us.
DROP IN is a
two-word verb without an object
No problem.
DROP IN ON is a
three-word verb
No problem either.
drop off, drop something off
'Hello, Clive. Is that you? You left your umbrella at my car last night: No
problem. I'll drive round to your house later, and drop it off.'


When you drop off something, or you drop something

, you are
delivering it.

Be careful.
Drop off also means to drop off from consciousness. In simpler words, to
fall asleep, usually rather suddenly.
Mr Monotone, the ecclesiastical history teacher, was talking and talking,
and I just dropped off.

The rat-race is how we often describe the rush for a good education, a
good job, a nice house in a nice area, a beautiful husband or wife, and

a nice house in a nice area.

A dry day is a day when it does not rain. A dry cloth has no water in it. So
to dry something means to remove the water from it.
dry out

out
means 'away' so when you dry something out it means that you
eliminate all the water in it; the water goes away.. Imagine that you have


been caught in the rain (which happens a lot in England) and your clothes
are wet when you get home. You have to take them off and dry them out
before you can wear them again.

dry up
Dry completely (which is the most common meaning of
up
) When a river
dries up there is no more water in it. The sun dried it up. When farming
land dries up there is tragedy and people have to move away.
