Our Vision

Our vision at Penn Wood High School is for all of our students to graduate,

in four years, college and/or career ready.

Community Profile

The William Penn School District is located in southeastern Delaware County, Pennsylvania, approximately 7 miles west of Philadelphia. The District serves approximately 5,500 students who live in the six communities of Aldan, Colwyn, Darby, East Lansdowne, Lansdowne, and Yeadon Boroughs. The schools of William Penn include eight elementary schools, educating students in grades K-6: Aldan, Ardmore Avenue, Bell Avenue, Colwyn, East Lansdowne, Evans, Park Lane, and Walnut Street. The secondary schools of William Penn School District are Penn Wood Middle School and Penn Wood High School.

School Profile

Penn Wood High School is a comprehensive high school with two campuses. The 9th and 10th grades are at the Cypress Street Campus, while the 11th and 12th grades are at the Green Avenue Campus. The core curriculum is academically rigorous and is designed to prepare all students for college study, without remediation. The goal is to prepare all students to either attend college or prepare for a career in order to earn a family-sustaining wage.

Accreditation

Penn Wood High School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Enrollment

Total enrollment at Penn Wood High School for the 2013-2014 school year is approximately 1,500. Enrollment for the Class of 2013 is 325 students.

Ranking

Class rank is calculated in the form of present year and cumulative years. It is determined at the end of each marking period and finalized at the end of the school year. For graduation purposes and awards, the third quarter rank of the 12th grade year is utilized.

Academically Talented

The gifted support program provides advanced placement courses, mentor opportunities, college library privileges, university dual enrollments, career shadows, and integrated projects which promote independence and academic growth.

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement courses prepare students for AP tests, which qualify them to earn college credit, thus, exempting them from taking freshman-level college courses.
