Distressed passenger:
Guest housed at a hotel due to air travel delays. In some cases, the cost of hous-
ing is borne by the airline on which the guest was traveling.

A mid-size city in the U.S. West is home to a large university that plays foot-
ball on Saturdays in the fall. Such days create a sellout situation in the city,
because the visiting team’s students and fans fill the area’s hotel rooms. For the
past several years, no hotels in the area have offered discounts on rooms for
football Saturdays. The new football schedule for next year has just been
released. On one Saturday, the university will play a much smaller school located
only 20 minutes away from the city. Its football program has not been strong,
and it attracts few fans.
On non-football Saturdays in the fall, the Claremont Hotel, located near
the campus, offers a family package that includes a room, reduced prices on
dinner in the dining room, and tickets to the local zoo. The program is adver-
tised to local families by a posting on the city’s convention and visitors bureau
(CVB) Web site. Should the date the university plays the new opponent be
included on the family package list of available dates? (Currently it is not.)
