Automated (or manual) system of data collection and reporting used by
a hotel to summarize and document its financial activity and position.
For example, in most cases a hotel’s payment to a supplier who provides table-
cloths for banquets would be documented in the hotel’s back-office accounting

system. This payment (accounting transaction) would not likely be recorded in the
PMS. Traditionally, PMS manufacturers have not developed systems that are easily
interfaced with back-office accounting systems. Now, however, more manufacturers
are working to develop these interfaces, and in the near future hoteliers will likely be
using a system that integrates all of the hotel’s financial information.
