maintain. Therefore, only managers with a recurring and significant need for PMS
data will be directly connected to the system. In this example, the chief engineer will
likely request and receive several daily maintenance-related reports, including one
that indicates rooms that are currently out of order (OOO). Figure 5 is a sample
report printed from PMS data files.
FRONT OFFICE SEMANTICS
Out of order (OOO):
Room that is unrentable for reasons other than routine cleaning. The industry stan-
dard notation for this room is OOO.
The PMS report in Figure 5 is titled “Today’s Work Order,” and it gives the reader
the following information:
A. Business date on which the report was generated
B. Shift on which the report was prepared
C. Initials of the individual who generated the report
D. Room number that is out of order
E. Room type (codes used are specific to each hotel)
F. Date(s) for which the room should not be sold.
G. OOO status of the room. (In this report, the Y indicates that “yes” the room
is OOO, is in need of attention, and should not be sold.)
