Flat (organization chart)
Combination of positions within an organization to reduce the
number of management layers in efforts to improve communication, increase operating
efficiencies, and reduce costs.
Folio
Detailed list of guestroom and other charges authorized by the guest or legally
imposed by the hotel.
Forecast
Estimate of future sales activity.
Form of payment
Method that guests use to pay their bills (e.g., credit card, debit card,
cash, check).
Franchise
Arrangement whereby one party (the brand) allows another party (the hotel’s
owners) to use its logo, name, systems, and resources in exchange for a fee.
Franchisor
Company that manages the brand and sells the right to use the brand name.
Some franchisors own and operate hotels as well as sell use of the brand name to others.
Free-to-guests
Service provided to the hotel guest at no additional charge beyond normal
room rental charges. Examples are local telephone calls, use of Internet connections, and
access to the hotel’s pool or workout facilities. Ultimately, the hotel must absorb the costs
of providing these services to guests; therefore, the term does not mean that the services
are free to the hotel.
