FRONT OFFICE SEMANTICS
Limited-service hotel:
Lodging property that offers no or very limited foodservices; sometimes a com-
plimentary breakfast is served, but there is no restaurant with table service.
Features that make limited-service properties a unique segment of the hotel
industry include their relatively small size, the large proportion affiliated with a fran-
chise brand, the room rental charges, and guest services that are offered.
Most limited-service properties are small; average size consists of fewer than 150
rooms. Nearly all are affiliated with a franchise brand. The most distinguishing fea-
tures of the limited-service hotel segment, however, are its price and service segmen-
tation. Although there is no industry standard, some observers group limited-service
hotels into three categories: budget (economy), mid-price, and upscale.
