Residents of New Orleans, the Gulf Coast region, and the entire United States will never
forget the catastrophe caused by Hurricane Katrina in early Fall 2005. The disaster will
directly affect the lives of hundreds of thousands of residents in the area for years to
come. For a few days, it also threatened the lives of thousands of guests staying at hotels
in New Orleans during and immediately after the storm and flooding that followed.
In “normal” times, many vacationers search for value, amenities, and a hotel envi-
