Most FOMs would answer yes. Although the booking pace for that date
should be monitored, all signs point to reduced demand that will necessitate
some room discounting. In anticipation of reduced demand, the best FOMs
take decisive actions—even actions not normally taken—as they consider
future patterns of room demand.

The 500-room Crystal Hotel is attached to the convention center in a large city
in the U.S. South. Typically the hotel achieves a 60 percent occupancy on
Friday and Saturday nights. It does so by heavily promoting a weekend getaway
package to local city residents that includes rooms at 30 percent off rack rate.
