GLOSSARY Field Data-entry location in a PMS. For example, the reservation screen on a PMS
contains a field for the guest’s name and another field for the guest’s telephone number
(along with many other fields). Data for these fields are typically entered at the time the
reservation is made and may be modified at the time of guest registration. Fields are
sometimes referred to as data fields.
Fixed labor position Position that involves work tasks not directly tied to the level of
business volume. Examples are management positions such as FOM and uniformed services
manager.
Flash report Daily information provided to the general manager that reports key financial
information from the previous day and, often, accumulated data for the month and/or
year to date compared with actual data from previous years. Flash report information is
used to determine where, if at all, management attention is most immediately required.
