It is unlikely that a FOM makes these decisions unilaterally. In many hotels, the
FOM meets with the director of sales and marketing to review occupancy forecasts
and to consider room rates for future transient reservations based on forecasts.
Discussions about room rates for group sales, although the responsibility of the direc-
tor of sales and marketing, also may occur. A subsequent meeting with the GM will
then yield pricing decisions.

Data in PMS reports help the GM evaluate the effectiveness of the marketing
and sales department’s efforts. Are sales for specified periods on track with the fore-
casts? How do sales compare with the number of rooms sold for this time period last
year? When there are concerns about future room sales, the GM may place this topic
on the executive committee’s agenda.
One of the most important responsibilities of the FOM is to produce a daily
flash report that gives the GM a quick snapshot of important financial information
necessary to make decisions.
