Role of the Executive Committee
As hotels become larger, more persons in more specialized positions are needed. The
general manager facilitates the work of department heads who, in turn, manage the
major functions in the property.
The executive committee, also called executive operating committee, consists of
members of the management team, generally division and department heads, respon-
sible for department leadership and overall property administration. The FOM is a
member of and plays an integral role in the committee. Meeting weekly or at other
intervals judged appropriate by the general manager, these top-level managers plan for
and coordinate a wide range of concerns, many with between-department implications.
