Abstract
Introduction:
Numerous professional articles in the medical literature and the successful practice of
various European countries in the field of organ donors emphasize the importance of well-organized
emergency procedures for patient care in this field. The timely detection of appropriate potential donors
and adequate professional care complemented by the proper organization are becoming the
cornerstone for provision of organs necessary for procedures of treatment with organ transplantation.
Methods:
The 15-year practice of the Hospital in Murska Sobota in the area of donor activity of brain-
dead donors has been reviewed retrospectively. The pathology of vascular problems of the central
nervous system and damage of the central nerve system were encompassed. On the basis of the
annotated diagnosis and patients’ data the number of actual organ donors was compared.
Results:
In the time from 1995 to 2009 the Hospital of Murska Sobota faced 1869 deaths of patients
where either vascular pathology or severe damage of central nerve system was diagnosed. The
mentioned diagnoses occurred 8319 times in the 15-year practice. The files of 1655 patients, whose

je v ZDA zmanjšalo pojavnost bolezni in posledičnih komplikacij za 90%, zato bi bilo smotrno, da tudi v
Slovenji postane del rednega cepilnega programa otrok.
