The historical theme in the Bashkir literature makes special sense in figurative and 
poetic portrayal of the nation’s life. The historical past, that is material, spiritual and moral 
basis, conceptual and formative factor, for example, in the development of national stage 
literature has direct relation to the drama genre. Drama genre, in particular the historical 
drama, dates back to the ancient syncretic forms of ritual poetry and oral tradition of the 
Bashkirs. Fruitful influence of the folklore poetics on the historical drama does not weaken 
up to now. The role of the widely known kubair such as “Ural batyr”, “Akbuzat”, “Kunyr 
buga”, “Idukay and Muradym”, Zayatulyak and Hyukhylyu”, of legendary historical songs 
“Kahym turya”, “Buranbaj” and others is invaluable. Rich traditions of these folk tales were 
creatively used by M. Gafuri, M. Burangulov, D. Yultyj, B. Bikbaj, Z. Biisheva, M. Karim, 
D. Bulyakov, I. Yumagulov and modern writers. The modern historical drama, in compari-
son with the literary works on hero-patriotic theme written in prior years, has two distin-
guishing features. The first is the objective approach of authors to reproduction of events of 
military reality, in which ethical principles of characters are shown and their spirits are 
trialed in extreme situations. The second is the fact that the antagonistic forces opposing the 
characters are also portrayed with personal traits and behavior of real people.
