importance of “clearing up…misconceptions” in order to know how serious the threat of marine debris 
really is. Therefore, it is important to interrogate “the existing scientific literature” to help ecologists to 
figure out “which problems really need addressing”. 
– The entire passage concerns Rochman and her study on other prior research on marine debris. She 
assessed these studies to answer the question of whether the situation is as bad as they suggested. In
