Introduction
Synonymy is usually viewed as a system of relationships between words or their
lexical-semantic variants based on a semantic community that manifests itself in a
language over a long period of its historical development.
Not only two words
(lexical synonymy), a word and phraseological units, but also two or more
phraseological units can enter into synonymous relations with each other. Based on
the generally accepted definition of synonyms in linguistics as words (expressions,
constructions), coinciding or:
close in meaning, expressing the same concept, by
synonymous phraseological units we mean such phrases that relate to the same
object, concept, objective phenomenon reality, have
a completely different or
partially overlapping lexical structure, have different stylistic, emotionally expressive
shades and relative interchangeability. One of the factors that differentiates
phraseological synonyms is a set of lexical components, which creates unique images
that form the basis of rethinking and due to which the character of phraseological
units is created, differing stylistically and emotionally expressively.
Literature review
We present a critical review of the points of view on synonymy and define an
acceptable way of considering it on the basis of the material under study. In the
center of attention of researchers of phraseological synonymy
is the question of the
essence of this phenomenon. Most scientists, investigating the issue of the essence of
synonymy, define phraseological synonyms as phrases expressing the same concept,
having the same object-related relationship and differing in expressive-semantic
shades. Other scholars make additions to this definition concerning the main features
of phraseological synonymy and believe that different images should be the basis of
synonymous phraseological expressions. The latter understand by phraseological

synonymy such phenomena in the development of phraseological units, which cover
changes in the figurative structure and expressive-stylistic sounding of phraseological
units associated with one meaning. R.L. Lyando, T.I. Kovalenko, V.N. Telia in their
definitions emphasize the importance of the lexical structure. So R.L. Lyando notes
that phraseological units - synonyms differ in their
lexical structure partially, with
which one cannot agree, since phraseological units - synonyms can completely differ
in their lexical components. This is especially true for synonymous phraseological
units.
