INTRODUCTION: 
The line chart illustrates how the percentages of households having access to different types of 
modern technologies (home computer, CD player, mobile phone and the internet) changed in the 
United Kingdom from 1996 to 2003. 
OVERVIEW: 
Overall, it is clearly seen that the percentages of domestic access to all four types of modern 
technology increased significantly, however, the most accessible among them was CD player 
throughout the entire given period. 
BODY 1: 
1996 was the year in which around 60% of houses in the United Kingdom owned CD players 
which was twice as much as the percentage of households owning home computers. In the 
following 7 years’ period the figures for both categories witnessed a marked increase, the former 
reaching a peak of just above 80% and the latter accounting for roughly 55%.
BODY 2: 
When it comes to mobile phone, it was a type of technology which experienced the most 
significant increase among the others, growing from just below 20% in 1996 to almost 65% in 
2003. Turning to the internet access, it began to appear in minority of houses in the United 
Kingdom in 1998, however, after five years’ time approximately 45% of total households had an 
internet access.
