QUANTUM ALGORITHM FOR SECURE INFORMATION EXCHANGE

Abstract: 
the article presents information about quantum information 
technology and necessity of working out new algorithms to improve information 
security. An algorithm based on “reversible” quantum gates is proposed for using in 
quantum cryptography.

Superposition principle and quantum entanglement are main features of 
quantum information technology (QIT). These features are core values of QIT and 
they resulted in efficient results such as factorization of large numbers using Peter 
Shor’s algorithm [1]. The possibility of using Shor’s factorization algorithm to 
calculate two prime numbers, multiplication of which results in large numbers, was 
one of the main advantages of quantum computers over classical computers. 
Because in order to do so, Shor’s algorithm included Quantum Fourier Transform. 
This means that famous RSA cryptosystem will fail to be secure or stable as this 
system is based on the difficulty of factoring large numbers into its prime multipliers. 
Therefore, in order to improve security of information exchange, it is utmost 
important to work out new algorithms or methods. 
Quantum bits can be 2-state quantum physical quantities such as polarization 
of light, energy levels and electron spins [2]. In order to work with quantum bits or 
qubits, numerous quantum gates have been modeled and they are currently being 
used in quantum computing. These gates include “Hadamard” gate, “
NOT
” gate, 
“Controlled-
NOT
” gate, “Toffoli” gate, “Measurement” gate, rotation and phase 
gates. These gates can be classified as “reversible” and “irreversible” gates [3].
