Making Excuses
Definition:
This is when you claim that external circumstances
forced you to behave in a certain way.
How this might look like in a conversation:
“Why didn’t you prepare dinner like you promised?”
“I was in a client meeting, and just couldn’t get away from work in time.”
We often have really good excuses for why we do or don’t do things.
Quite often, life simply derails us, and there is always a good reason.
Even if the good reason is only that we’re tired and forgot, it’s still a
reason. The problem is that once you have promised to do something,
other people are expecting it. Making excuses, especially those involving
external forces (clients, transport problems, your boss and so on) means
that you are not taking responsibility.
