Say something to the perpetrator
Many victims of sexual harassment never say anything. The popular
wisdom goes that people tend to think it must be their fault, or that they
have somehow done something to invite that comment or behaviour.
This is unlikely to be true. Even if you did do something that was
misinterpreted, that doesn’t make it your fault.
It is, therefore, a good idea to say something straight away, to let the
perpetrator know that kind of behaviour or language is not acceptable
to you. This may—and should—be enough to stop it in its tracks.
