FRONT OFFICE SEMANTICS
On-call:
Agreement between a hotel employer and a staff member that the staff member, although not
formally scheduled to work, will remain available to work, to answer questions, or to do both, if neces-
sary, during a specified time period.
Front office employees in variable labor positions must be scheduled according to
the forecasted volume of business. Employees in fixed labor positions do work that
is not directly affected by business volume. These employees can be scheduled
according to times when their work should be done, and these times may not corre-
late with when guests are arriving, visiting, or departing from the hotel.
