Full-Service Hotels
The maturity of the full-service hotel segment yields the advantages of highly pre-
ferred property locations, long-established operating procedures, and significant
brand recognition. Nevertheless, the segment faces considerable challenges:
•
Increased competition from limited-service hotels. The limited-service hotel seg-
ment is expanding rapidly. As a result, full-service hotels must compete with
other full-service hotels and with newer (and often more modern) limited-
service properties. For example, many older full-service hotels are not wired so
that guests have high-speed Internet access for their computers. The cost of
rewiring a property to provide this access can be immense. New, limited-service
hotels, however, are routinely wired with CAT 5 cable (or higher quality) at
little additional installation expense.
