FRONT OFFICE : HUB OF THE HOTEL The hotel’s telephone operator should begin informing guests that an earthquake
has occurred and that managers are assessing the damage. Guests should be advised to
remain calm and stay in their rooms. The operator is responsible for monitoring the local
AM or FM radio newscasts and notifying hotel managers of the latest significant news.
Earthquake plans need to specify the nearest exit from all workstations, including
the front desk, and the route to reach that exit if an evacuation is necessary. Alternate
routes should be defined for use if the first one is blocked or is unsafe.
