Data Collection
Mixed methods were utilized to gather data regarding the use of a MALL approach for a writing
class to measure their effectiveness in improving the writing skills of female students at the
intermediate level. The researcher collected data from questionnaires, observation notes, and
writing performance ratings.
Method
Participants
Forty first-year female students enrolled in an intermediate intensive English program at Kuwait
university participated in this research. They were all native Arabic speakers instructed to
produce an appropriate paragraph-level text in their writing class. Participant ages ranged from
17 to 19 years. English proficiency levels, determined from a placement test taken before
admission, were almost equal across participants. The duration of the study was approximately
five weeks.
