A 

short story is fiction – a work of literature in which the characters and 

events are imagined by the author.  Fiction allows you to explore new 

worlds, share the joys and sorrow of the characters, and learn from the 

invented experiences of others.  Through the short stories in this unit, we 

will follow our characters as they manage family relationships in life and in 

death, as the make choices that will affect their well being, as they deal with 

voids in their lives, and as they stand in mortal peril.  Come experience the 

lives of these characters, from the safety of your own seat!
