Project Title:

Energy and Water Conservation and Efficiency through Grassroots Community Outreach

Purpose of Project:

Conduct grassroots outreach to promote energy and water efficiency using faith-based organizations and proven programs to increase understanding, behavior change and retrofits in Park Forest.

Brief description of project goals, strategy, and key activities (250 words or less):

Raise public awareness and educate residents about energy and water use to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Park Forest Sustainability Coordinator, Elevate Energy and Faith in Place will work together to achieve project goals through one-on-one conversations, community meetings hosted at various locations throughout the Village and by having a local, on-site part time staff to lead the efforts.

This project will leverage existing energy efficiency programs from Elevate Energy and deliver targeted outreach to conduct 535 conversations within the first year. Based on program outreach experience and energy efficiency expertise, these conversations will lead to 30 energy assessments and 9 energy efficiency upgrades of single-family homes, resulting in 15% energy savings per home, and 12 energy assessments and 3 energy efficiency upgrades of congregations resulting in 20% energy savings per congregation. This initial project uptake and increase in awareness will create a foundation for future reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and community buy-in.
This project includes in-kind donations, support, and collaboration from the Village of Park Forest and The Chicago Community Trust who are vested in increasing environmental sustainability in the community. Elevate Energy and Faith in Place have a strong history of working together to deliver energy efficiency information and resources.
