Good evening parents this is Marlene Batista principal at Dos Caminos. I am so sorry for the delay in sending out information but our district has been moving to a new Student Information System this summer and we finally have it connected to our School Messenger again this week. I want to start by saying that I hope you all had a wonderful summer and to say “Can you believe it’s almost over?” Yes school starts in less than two weeks on Monday, August 11^th!
We have great things happening at Dos Caminos. We’ve been under construction in Pod 4 getting it ready for our 3^rd grade team. Besides our 3^rd grade teachers, we have more new staff to introduce. We now officially have an Assistant Principal to help me in leading our school to greatness. Her name is Roxanne Dashti and she comes to us from Summerwind. This is Ms. Dashti’s first administrative position and I know that you will help me in welcoming her and supporting her as she becomes familiar with our school. I know that you will love her and will make her feel like part of our family. We also have a new Learning Support Teacher that we will be sharing with Juniper this year. Ms. Candace Craven is actually not new to our site as she has been coming this past year and helping out as a grandmother in Kindergarten. Ms. Craven will be helping Ms. Dashti and I in supporting our teachers with professional development and also in helping our students with interventions. I am so excited to have this support team added to our school and look forward to working with them to make Dos Caminos the best school for our students.
Updated supply lists are posted on the website right now. This way you can start shopping all the school supply sales in the next week and a half. Also posted on the website is the August Calendar.
We now have our class lists ready for 1^st through 3^rd grade. If you want to know your child’s classroom assignment feel free to call the office during business hours (8-4pm) or stop by and Carmen will give you the information. Additionally, if your child takes the bus Carmen will be able to give you that information if you call or stop by.
Kindergarten parents will receive all this information at our Kindergarten Roundup on Thursday, August 7^th. If you haven’t received the flyer in the mail I have posted the flyer on line for parents to see but know that we will meet at the Juniper Cafeteria at 5:30pm on the Thursday before school starts. PTA will provide refreshments and will be selling uniforms that night. After an initial welcome you will be given your child’s classroom assignment and will be able to go with your child to meet their teacher and see their room. This will help with the anxiety of Kindergarten 1^st day. I hope to see all of you there.
The Duck Race is back again this year. The date of the event is sooner this year, on Friday, August 29^th. So that means we need to sell faster. Last year we sold 800 ducks with only 360 students. We were the second highest seller in the entire Antelope Valley. We were beat out by Gregg Anderson School in Westside school district by 50 ducks and they have over 800 students. So, my goal for this year is to beat the pants off of everyone in the Antelope Valley and be the number one school. I know this is possible because we’ll now have close to 480 at our school and our families are awesome. Look for the duck race information going home on the first day but we can get started now if you go to the AV Duck website at http://www.duckrace.com/antelopevalley you can go to adopt a duck and look under teams, choose Dos Caminos and start buying.
Finally we are in the process of getting our After School Program set up for this school year. The program will be offered Monday through Fridays from 2:30-6pm at a cost of $250 per month. The program will offer educational enrichment activities and tutoring for students. To get more information or begin enrolling your child for this year they will be available at our site on Tuesday, August 5^th from 8-12pm and Wednesday, August 6^th from 5:30-7pm. They will also be at our Kindergarten Round Up on Thursday, August 7^th. So if you are in need of after school care please make sure to stop by on any of these dates and get more information. A link to their website and information on the dates are all posted on our website.

Buenas noches padres esta es Marlene Batista directora de Dos Caminos. Siento tanto la tardanza del envio de esta información pero nuestro distrito se ha estado cambiando a un nuevo sistema de información estudiantil este verano y finalmente han conectado nuestro sistema de Mensajes con el nuevo sistema esta semana. Quiero comenzar diciendo que espero que todos ustedes tuvieron un maravilloso verano y decirles “¿Puede creer que esta casi terminado? ¡” Sí, la escuela comienza en menos de dos semanas el lunes, 11 de agosto.
Tenemos grandes cosas que suceden en Dos Caminos. Hemos estado en construcción en el Edificio 4 preparando para nuestro equipo de tercer grado. Además de nuestros nuevos maestros en tercer grado, tenemos más personal nuevo para introducir. Ahora oficialmente tenemos una subdirectora que me ayudará a dirigir a nuestra escuela hacia grandeza. Su nombre es Roxanne Dashti y ella no viene de la escuela Summerwind. Este es el primer trabajo administrativo para la Srta. Dashti y sé que ustedes me van a ayudar en darle la bienvenida y el apoyo que ella necesita mientras que se familiariza con nuestra escuela. Sé que ella les va a encantar y ustedes le harán sentir como parte de nuestra familia. También tenemos una nueva Maestra de Apoyo de Aprendizaje que compartieremos con Juniper este año. La Sra. Ya tenemos nuestras listas de clase para el primer al tercer grado. También, si su hijo toma el autobús acabamos de recibir el nuevo horario de paradas y recogidas y Carmen le podrá dar esta información por teléfono o en persona.
Los Padres de Kinder recibirán toda esta información en nuestra Reunión para Kinder el jueves, 7 de agosto. Si no recibieron el volante por correo he publicado el volante en línea para que los padres puedan verlo, pero para que sepan nos vamos juntar en la cafetería de Juniper el jueves a las 5:30pm. PTA les ofrecerá refrescos y van a estar vendiendo uniformes. Después de la bienvenida inicial se le dará la asignación de salón de su hijo y serán capaz de ir con su hijo y conocer la maestra y su salón. Esto ayudará con la ansiedad del primer día de Kinder para usted y su hijo. Espero verlos a todos allí.
La Carrera de Patos está de vuelta otra vez este año. La fecha del evento es más temprano este año, el viernes 29 de agosto. Esto significa que tenemos que vender patos más rápido.
