WRITING TASK 1 (30 MARKS)

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.



The bar chart below gives information on the sales of two different types of dining tables by Crestar Furniture between 2017 and 2020.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.



Write at least 150 words.

Task 1


The above given bar chart decides the sales of two types of dining tables of Crestar Furniture for 3 years of time from 2017 till 2020.

Firstly, what can be obviously seen from the graph is that the 4seater dining tables has risen over the given time, while 6 seat tables saw a gradual fall. At the beginning the number of 6 seater sold was around 3 times bigger than the sales of 4 seaters. Starting from 90 six-seaters in 2017, the trend continually fall to around 54 in 2020.

Secondly, because of some natural and economic reasons, the number of four-seaters increased drastically over the time. The figure started from a little below 30 in the beginning and increased over the years. From the graph it can be determined that the trend went up dramatically in a year just from over 30 to nearly 70 while in this year the 6 seaters saw a great decrease fron 80 to 60. In the last year of the given above graph the trends continually kept the initial trends. The last year 6 seaters fall down to 50, when in that time the 4 seaters got up to 85 numbers.

In a nutshell, we can define that over the last years the number of 4 seaters increased and 6 seaters really saw a downward trend. It can be concluded that the people tend to require less seats to eat.

Task 2

These days, the number of unemployed people is increasing over the decades because of the technology inventions and rapid occurring changes. This essay suggests both disadvantages and advantages of employing older people.



One argument in support of younger employees is that older employees could be more set in their ways and potentially against any change. To an extent this may be true, but there are many flexible and intelligent workers over 50, while there are inflexible and narrow-minded younger ones. Attitude towards change is a result not of age but of personality type.

That said, physical changes occurring with age could mean certain jobs are more suited to a younger person. For instance, psychologists seem to be in agreement that memory declines with age for people not remaining mentally active. In high-tech industries such as computer programming, where it is so important to be able to work with so much information, numbers and calculations, being younger may be an advantage.



However, older workers have a wide range of other positive attributes that they can bring to their working environment. Generally, they have more work experience than those who are younger. In addition, as can be seen with the trend of many department stores in the UK to take on older people, they are seen to be more reliable and respectful. These are important in any kind of working environment.

In conclusion, therefore, there is not the evidence to support employing young people as opposed to those over 50. It would seem that a mix of the best qualities of old and young is preferential in order to ensure the most productive environment evolves.
