TRAVELLING AND TRAVELLERS
We usually travel on land. by water and by air. On land people may travel walking, that is, going on foot, they may \ travel by bus or car, by train, they may cycle, and so on. We call the people who travel travellers (in AE"=travelers).
Since the first railway had opened people covered millions of kilometres travelling from one part of the country to another, from one country to another by train. People are able to visit distant lands.
It was so many thousands of years ago that we can only imagine how people began to travel by water. Travelling by water is called voyage. Today the water carry people from one place to another.
Ocean-going liners and river boats are used to carry passengers. Pleasure-boats are for tourists and holiday-makers. Many people travel for several weeks along the many big and small rivers.
Travelling by air is a usual thing today. Most people like it very much because it is much quicker than any other means of transport. If the distance is not very great, you will fly on a small plane. It can land on an airfield near a small town or even a village.
During flights on small planes one can see the land below and enjoy the scenery.
