The Grants & Agreements (G&A) Organization for the Pacific Northwest Region will soon be advertising for a Grants Management Assistant. The G&A Assistant is a member of a team made up of one lead specialist, two specialists, and one assistant, and provides service to the Okanogan-Wenatchee, Colville and Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forests and the Region. Duty location: Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Headquarters, Wenatchee, Washington
Duties: This position will be responsible for:

-Assisting with the intake, tracking, monitoring, and closure of Grants and Agreements functions, including but not limited to: Grants; Cooperative Agreements; Interagency and Intra-Agency Agreements; Collection Agreements; as well as all of the partnership agreements authorized for use by the Forest Service.


-Providing assistance and excellent customer service to program managers in response to basic inquiries on standard grant and agreement issues; answering questions and resolving problems with databases and tracking payment issues; following correct manual and handbook procedures in all phases of grant and agreement administration; and coordinating closeouts and preparing basic modifications.
The Community: The Wenatchee Valley is nestled on the shores of the mighty Columbia River. It is located in Central Washington just 100 miles southeast of Seattle and 165 miles west of Spokane. The Greater Wenatchee Area has approximately 48,000 residents who enjoy living in a region with four distinct seasons. The Forests: The Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest covers approximately 4 million acres. The Okanogan is called the “Sunny Okanogan” and for good reason. Summers are hot and dry, and winters are famous for brilliant clear skies and plenty of snow. The 1,706,000-acre Okanogan portion of the forest includes the Pasayten and Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wildernesses and is home to the North Cascade Smokejumper Base. The 2.2 million acre Wenatchee portion of the forest extends about 135 miles along the east side of the Cascade crest from Lake Chelan in the north to the Yakima Indian Reservation in the south. Nearly 40% of the Wenatchee’s forest land in designated as wilderness area: The Lake Chelan-Sawtooth, Glacier Peak, Henry M. Jackson, Alpine Lakes, William O. Douglas, Norse Peak and the Goat Rocks.

Recreation: Recreational opportunities abound in the area. If you are a skier there are three major ski areas within 60 minutes of Wenatchee as well as several small local ski areas. There are various Cross Country ski trails and opportunities for heli-skiing. The forests trail and road systems allow for snowmobiling, horseback riding, mountain biking, trail bike riding and snowshoeing. Wildlife habitat provides a wide array of hunting opportunities from elk, deer and bear to pheasant, chukkar and grouse. Streams, ponds, rivers and lakes harbor several varieties of trout and furnish water sport enthusiasts a fanfare of ventures. Whether it’s scenic vistas, para-gliding, rock climbing, kayaking or camping activities you enjoy, the Okanogan-Wenatchee provides abundant opportunities.

Qualification Requirements: Those who are interested must meet the qualification requirements for the GS-1101 series that is covered by the Administration and Management standards. The OPM Qualification Standards Handbook Manual is available for the review at any federal personnel office OR on the Internet at http://www.opm.gov/qualifications/SEC-IV/A/gs-admin.asp. Applicant must have one year of specialized experience at the next lower level. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
