Research activities of students include writing term papers, essays, articles, abstracts, diploma theses and participation in conferences.
The qualification work of students, term papers of bachelor's and master's degrees has very clear requirements both in terms of content and in terms of design.
The supervisor (scientific adviser) assists students to write, term paper, qualification work. Choosing a topic, you must immediately contact the person who leads this topic. It helps to schedule work on which the student can determine what to do, recommends what the content of the work should be, indicates which literature should be read. After receiving the initial consultation, the student works independently. However, he can always turn to the supervisor for advice. It is the supervisor who checks the work and puts an assessment (in the third year) or submits the work to the department with a recommendation for protection (in the fourth and fifth year).
Qualification work should consist of a title page, content, introduction, the main part (in a term paper it can be one (theoretical) or two sections (theoretical and empirical), in a bachelor's and master's degree - two (theoretical and empirical) or three (theoretical and two empirical)), conclusions to each section and general conclusions, a list of used literature and a list of sources of illustrative material. Sometimes at the end of the work, there is also a list of lexicographic sources (if dictionaries were used in the work) and applications. Applications may include large tables, which are inconvenient to place in the main text, copies of the documents understudy, illustrations.
The title page usually has a definite template, which is prepared according to the requirements. Ordinary, you just have to substitute your data there.
The content includes the names of sections and subsections with page numbers. Its design is also typical.
The entry should consist of some mandatory components: 1) the actuality of the problem, 2) the object and subject of the study, 3) the purpose and objectives of the study, 4) the research material, 5) research methods, 6) for bachelor and master's work - the tasks that submitted to the defense, 7) the theoretical and practical significance of the study, 8) approbation research results (if any). Each of these components must be written in bold or underlined.
Usually, the introduction begins by indicating the general direction of the study and the place of your specific research problem in it. For example, you can start like this: “This work is dedicated to research A,” where A is the theme of your work. It is necessary to determine the scientific problem that you are involved in the work, and briefly state about this problem. Here it is necessary to list an exists approaches to this problem, which of the scientists dealt with it, and determine unexplored remains, and note exactly what you will consider in the work.
The statement of scientific development of the problem precedes the formulation of the actuality of the study, which is justified by the correspondence to the current state of science and the important socio-cultural role of the problem being studied.
The object of research is the phenomenon being studied that gives rise to the problem, and the subject is the processes or features that are considered in this phenomenon. So, for example, the object may be the English-language computer discourse, and the subject - its pragmatic features. The subject corresponds to the purpose of the study.
The purpose of the study is formulated indicating the object and subject of the study and corresponds to the name of the work. Specific tasks of the work follow from the goal, which is listed in the order of their solution. Tasks in no way cases should not be global. The description of tasks is usually given in the form of verbs with the meaning of the result, not the process (find out ... describe ... establish ... derive the dependence ...).
For instance:
“The purpose of this study is to determine the specificity of A.
The purpose of the work determines the solution to such problems:
- determine the theoretical and methodological principles of analysis A;
highlight and describe the characteristics of A;
establish the specifics of A;
to systematize the language means of expression A ".
Describing the research material, you need to indicate its quantity (how many investigated units you have in the case), the method of receiving, origin (country, time, genre). For course work, 50 units are enough, for a bachelor's degree - 200, for master's - not less than 300. For example:
“The research material was 300 discursive fragments in which A is realized, obtained by the method of a total selection of 3 authors of prose works in the genre of fiction with a total volume of 400 pages.”
The following is the methodological basis of the study and the analysis methods used. In this case, it is necessary to specify what method was used for what.
Course work does not require scientific novelty; in the bachelor's and master's degrees, it must be described.
