Subject: SWITCHOVER STARTS 3RD AUGUST - SCARBOROUGH AREA AND MOST OF LINCOLNSHIRE AND EAST YORKSHIRE

 

Dear colleague

On Wednesday 3rd August the first stage of switchover begins for the Belmont and Oliver’s Mount transmitter groups, which serve viewers in the Scarborough area, and across most of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Just after midnight on Tuesday, analogue BBC Two will be switched off and BBC Freeview channels will be boosted in power, becoming available for the first time, from the local relay transmitters at Hunmanby, Weaverthorpe, Grimsby (town centre), and Lincoln Central (Monk’s Road).  A fortnight later at stage two, all other analogue services are switched off and the remaining Freeview channels increase in power and become available from the relay transmitters.   In addition, from the second date, High-Definition (HD) digital services will become available at both the two main and all the relay transmitters.    A full HD television or an HD-enabled digital box is required to be able to view HD services.

Our experience to date is that the great majority of viewers find switchover quite straightforward, but we know that some people may need advice and reassurance about converting their equipment and tuning or retuning it.    The attached list gives details of all the roadshows and advice points where face-to-face help is available for the Belmont and Oliver’s Mount switchovers, and the Chesterfield and Sheffield switchovers, which happen on 10/24 August. 

Eligible older and disabled people can still apply for the Switchover Help Scheme for help converting one TV set to digital until 21 October 2011 (one month after the switchover of the final transmitter in the Yorkshire TV region).
