Listening: theory and practice in modern foreign language skill


Second language (L2) listening conception is a complex process, important in the improvement of second language competence. Listeners practise both bottom-up processers (linguistic knowledge) and top-down processes (prior knowledge) to understand. Learning the context of a listening text and the aim for listening greatly reduces the burden of understanding. Teachers can assistence learners improve sound strategies for comprehension through a process connect to teaching L2 listening. This will aid students study how to listen and improve the metacognitive knowledge and strategies significant to success in listening comprehension.



III.Research methodology
3.1.Case study
There are two different approaches to case studies:
Type 1: The analytical approach
The case study is examined in order to try and understand what has happened and why. It is not necessary to identify problems or suggest solutions.
Type 2: The problem-oriented method
The case study is analysed to identify the major problems that exist and to suggest solutions to these problems.
A successful case study analyses a real-life situation where existing problems need to be solved. It should:

  • Relate the theory to a practical situation; for example, apply the ideas and knowledge discussed in the coursework to the practical situation at hand in the case study.

  • Identify the problems.

  • Select the major problems in the case.

  • Suggest solutions to these major problems.

  • Recommend the best solution to be implemented.

  • Detail how this solution should be implemented.

Note: The Case is the “real life” situation
