application of nanometre sized particles onto wool (McNeil et al., 2005).
The potential for self-cleaning textiles has also been explored with titanium
dioxide (TiO
2
)
nanoparticles which can act as a photocatalyst to break down
organic dirt and kill micro-organisms (Xin et al., 2004; Xin and Daoud,
2005; Holme, 2006a; Daoud et al., 2008). These nanotechnologies have the
potential for application to wool textile materials while causing minimum
change in other properties such as handle.
