NSW PSSA SWIMMING REPORT 2004

The 2004 Championships were held at the Sydney Aquatic Centre, Homebush on Wednesday 7^th and Thursday 8^th April.

General Comments

The carnival again ran very smoothly thanks to the hard work of all the officials, team managers and NSW Swimming Association officials. Special thanks to Helen Wood for her assistance in putting together the program, her assistance at the Championships and at all levels of the swimming program. The new procedures introduced for the multi disability event entries worked well and thanks must go to Alan and Margaret Gregson and Joelle Bailey for their organization of these events. Thanks also to Neil Sherring for all his organization and to Ron Jordan for his continued support of school swimming at all levels of our program. The dinner was again held at the Albion Hotel, Parramatta on the Wednesday night.

The introduction of the one start rule led to a small number of disqualifications. Former Olympian Janelle Elford presented medals on the Thursday as did a number of life members of the NSW PSSA.

We again had the assistance of students from both Concord High School and Public School and their assistance was greatly appreciated.

There was a high standard of swimming with fourteen new records established.

The Championships received good media coverage from both city and country media outlets.

A team of 64 swimmers, including eight students with disabilities, was selected to represent the NSW PSSA at the School Sport Australia Exchange in Brisbane from 23rd – 28^th May 2004.
