North Fort Myers High School has a quality Physical Education program for all Red Knights! North offers all students excellent opportunities to experience new and traditional courses in Physical Education. Every BODY needs physical education!
PHYSICAL EDUCATION POLICY
All students are required to dress out for physical education. Each physical education class offered has its own course syllabus, student expectations and grading policy.
DRESS OUT/NON-SUIT POLICY
Maximum participation is the key to being successful in physical education. Non-suits can determine whether you pass or fail physical education. Written work and tests may be assigned a higher value. We expect you to do your best.
All students are required to have a change of clothes for participation in physical education. Proper physical education apparel should include athletic shorts, t-shirt, socks and tennis shoes. We provide uniforms that can be purchased.
SET: SHORTS AND T-SHIRT - $20.00
SHORTS - $10.00
T-SHIRT - $10.00 *No jeans, cheerleading shorts, belts, tank tops, half-shirts, low cut, sleeveless jerseys, or things on the clothing that could scratch or injure a student will be allowed.
*No flip flops will be allowed for physical education and will count against dress out grade and participation grade.
LOCKS & CARE OF VALUABLES AND CLOTHES
Locks can be purchased and strongly suggested for the safety of clothes and valuables for $5.00.
Lockers are provided for personal belongings, but it is important that each student purchase a lock. There is absolutely no sharing of lockers. P.E. teachers are not responsible for lost or stolen items. It is important for all students to be proactive in the care of their belongings. If a band instrument or fundraising item needs to be locked up then we can lock it up for the period.
*Do not bring items of great value to P.E. and do not give out your combination to anyone.
Showers are available; however the student is responsible for bringing hygiene products, such as a towel, wash clothes, soap and deodorant. Write your name on your clothes and personal belongings and leave them in your locked locker. Take clothes home on week-ends for washing.
CELL PHONES & OTHER ELECTRONICS NO CELL PHONES OR OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES ARE ALLOWED IN ANY PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS! THESE ITEMS MUST BE LOCKED UP IN THE LOCKER ROOM! TARDIES/PASSES
A student must have prior permission to be out of class for any reason. The school planner is the only pass acceptable unless the office brings a pass for a student. There are NO passes during 5th and 7th periods. No exceptions.
Tardies begin when the last bell rings then the locker room doors are shut. Students must enter the coaches’ office to sign a tardy slip. Our tardy policy follows the school policy:
a. 1st tardy = Detention
b. 2nd tardy = Detention
c. 3rd tardy = Detention
d. 4th tardy = Teacher Referral/Saturday School
e. 5th tardy = Teacher Referral/Saturday School
f. 6th tardy = Teacher Referral/Saturday School
CARE OF P.E. FACILITIES/EQUIPMENT– (Locker rooms, gyms, weight room, lobby and G123-classroom)
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD OR DRINKS OF ANY KIND IN THE GYMS, WEIGHT ROOMS, LOBBY AND THE CLASSROOM-G123. THESE ITEMS WILL BE CONFISCATED AND THROWN AWAY IF BROUGHT INTO THESE AREAS.
Locker rooms should remain clean. Dispose of all litter in the trash cans. No writing on walls, lockers, bleachers, mirrors, and/or desks.
No kicking of volleyballs, basketballs and other equipment unless instructed to do so. All equipment will be returned at the end of the period to the instructor and will not be taken from the instruction area. Students are not allowed for any reason to touch the light switches or any electrical outlet. No student is allowed in the gym unattended for any reason. Do not leave designated area until instructed to do so. Dress and un-dress in the locker rooms only. No “horseplay” in the locker rooms or outside areas. Our department ensures a safe and positive learning environment for all our students. We will not tolerate any student that disregards these rules for their own safety as well as the safety of others.
MEDICAL EXCUSES/PARENT NOTES
Each student is expected to participate in each day’s activity. A note from a parent must be presented to the instructor in case of an illness. Parent notes should not be used to get out of certain activities. Parent notes are only good for 3 consecutive days. Any student missing more than 3 days of activities or assignments must have a doctor’s note stating specific dates out of P.E. Students presenting parent notes or medical notes are still responsible for all material and make-up activities. If a student cannot physically make-up the activity then an alternate assignment will be given at the instructor’s discretion (ex. 2 page paper on area of study, visual assignment).
Our department takes pride in our program and the variety of courses offered to enhance physical education. We provide a safe and positive learning environment for all students. However, accidents do occur and the up most care will be administered. All students must report all accidents immediately. Band aids are available in the coaches’ office. The clinic is open for emergencies. Please check out the school insurance program. It is a great and affordable benefit to have for accidents at school. Physical Education is an active subject and all students are expected to do the best they can.
Sunny Southwest Florida says it all. We will be outside a lot and we strongly encourage all students to be proactive against skin cancer. Students are allowed to bring sun screen, a hat and sun glasses to P.E. Even during cloudy days students are encouraged to protect themselves. Lightening is also a visible concern here and all precautions are made to ensure students safety.
We are here to assist you in learning to lead a healthy and active lifestyle and to have fun doing it. If you don’t take care of your body then who will?
