2.2. Discussion of the Results 

As can  be seen  from the chart above,  the  most common  word-formation type of 

100 recent neologisms that were chosen for the linguistic analysis is blending. Blending 

is  a  word-formation  type  which  involves  both  shortening  and  compounding  and  it 

appears  to  be  highly  used  in  coining  new  words.  This  indicates  that  people  prefer  a 

constructive  combination  of  various  parts  of  two  or  more  words  in  order to  receive  a 

new  one  that  will  definitely  express  their  feelings  and  thoughts.  Such  kind  of  word-

formation allows combining words to describe new objects or phenomena in the modern 

society.  The  most  significant  aspect  in  this  word  formation  process  is  the  word’s 

sounding  not  the  morpheme  structure.  Quite  often,  it  produces  an  amusing  or 

entertaining effect.
