In elementary school we studied mathematics. Now we have two subjects instead of one: algebra and geometry. I like both of them very much.
I believe that math is one of the most important subjects in school. Everyone needs to be able to count even to perform such a routine task as shopping. And adult people should be able to calculate the taxes, to choose a mortgage program according to their income, to figure out how many rolls of wallpaper they need for the room, etc.
Math is not a difficult subject for me. I have no problems with applying theorems and formulas. I like to make calculations and solve equations. I always get good marks.
Studying math gives me confidence in my future professional success, because proficiency in exact sciences opens a lot of career opportunities. I think I might become a computer programmer or a big data analyst. And these jobs are quite well paid.
To be honest humanities are boring to me. I have a feeling that we study too many details. We have to memorize plenty of names and dates. But will we really use all that knowledge? When it comes to math I never have such doubts. That’s why it is my favorite subject.

History
I like many subjects in school: literature, English language, geography, biology. But my favorite subject is history.

History is an exciting journey to the past. Listening to our teacher we can imagine what was happening a long time ago. We learn how people lived, what they were doing, what they believed in. We trace the progress of our civilization.
History is not just a set of facts. It teaches us to analyze the situation, to see the connections between different phenomena.
Studying history we face harsh reality: there was so much cruelty and horror. Millions of people died in wars. Millions of people died of the plague. Huge number of people spent their lives in slavery.
History classes help to realize how lucky we are to live in the 21st century. I think we should be grateful to all those people who fought for human rights and well-being in various times and places. We should learn from them.
So history is an inspiring subject for me. It tells us what a huge progress mankind has already made. It makes me feel more optimistic about the remained and arising challenges.
