My Dream House

Since I was a child, I had been dreaming to live in a house that would be a place of peace, joy, and inspiration. I don’t like the idea of living in a noisy city in an apartment in the block of flats.

My dream house should be situated outside the city, in a deserted place, somewhere in a wood near a lake surrounded by the wild beautiful nature, or it would be an amazing idea to live somewhere on an island like Hawaii with beautiful sandy beaches and a lot of sun. I adore nature and it would be so exciting to wake up early in the morning and listen to the birds singing. At least, my dream house should be located near a small river in the countryside where I could live in peace and harmony with serene nature.

My dream house should be of a simple design; I would like it to be a bungalow style house designed in basic colors that are appealing to the eyes. I would like to have a huge lawn in front of my house and enough parking for several cars. There should be a small garden planted with fruit trees, bushes and flowers. There should be a front porch where we could sit and relax and enjoy the beauty of nature. I would like to have a large backyard with a big swimming pool and a basketball court because I am fond of sports. In my backyard, there should be also enough space for having family picnics when the weather is fine. I prefer to spend a lot of time out of doors so an attractive outer design of my house and gardens is very important for me.

My dream house should be large and spacious with plenty of large windows that would make the rooms bright and airy. The interior design of my house should be carefully planned to every detail but I should confess that I prefer a minimalistic approach to the design of interior so I don’t like my ideal house to be stuffed with a lot of unnecessary furniture – instead, I would like to have enough space to feel free. Besides, I would like to have enough space for green plants and flowers that would create beauty and peace.

I would like to have a spacious hall and a large living room with comfortable sofas and armchairs and a large soft carpet on the floor. My kitchen should be small and neat because I am I am not really fond of cooking – I prefer to have meals in small restaurants, and I cook rarely. But my kitchen should be equipped with the latest cooking appliances and utensils. I would like to have a really huge refrigerator that could be filled with cool drinks and a freezer. My kitchen should be designed in a Scandinavian style with simple white walls and a floor. I would like to have a large wooden dining table.

I would like to have three bedrooms with attached bathrooms with a shower and a Jacuzzi. The bedrooms should be cozy with large beds and soft carpets on the floors. I would like to have a large TV set in my bedroom and a built-in closet. I am fond of reading, actually, I am a bookworm, so the library would be one of the most important rooms in my dream house. I would like to have shelves with books of my favorite writers that would line the walls from the floor to the ceiling. In the library, I prefer to have the latest desktop computer to surf the Internet.

I would like to have a warm and welcoming home.

My future specialty is to be programmer

In the future, I may enjoy being a computer programmer because I am keen on trying computer techniques and working with computers is always fun and exciting for me.

People with jobs in the career field of IT use computers, software, networks, servers, and other technology to manage and store data. There is growing demand in various jobs in the field of information technologies nowadays.

It is important to understand that the work of the programmer can be different: some of them work for a small agency, some for a huge company, others are freelance or have their own business. I’d like to work for a big company.

In order to be a successful IT specialist you must possess some skills and personal qualities. The most important ones are the following: being able to think logically, love to solve problems, persistence and patience. A computer programmer must be able to find the most efficient way to solve the problem.

I want my future job be interesting and well-paid. People say that money isn’t everything, but it certainly does help because it gives independence and freedom. I’d like to combine a good satisfying job with a high paying salary.

Top 5 universities in the world

1. University of Oxford

One of the most prestigious universities in the UK has come out on top for the fourth year running. The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the UK and one of the best known in the world. There are more than 20,000 students at Oxford, with an almost equal number of undergraduates and postgraduates. About 95 per cent of Oxford graduates are either employed or in postgraduate study within six months of completing their studies.

Admission is extremely competitive; on average the university receives five applications for every place.

The university employs staff from just under 100 different countries and foreign citizens make up about 40 per cent of the student and academic body.

2. California Institute of Technology

One of the most striking features of Caltech is its unusually small size; only around 1,000 undergraduates and 1,250 postgraduates are enrolled there. The college boasts a high student-to-staff ratio. Caltech aims to foster an interdisciplinary environment in which students learn about and tackle the most challenging and fundamental scientific or technological problems.

The institution was founded as Throop University in 1891. It assumed its current name in 1920. There were 6,506 applicants for the entry class graduating in 2019 and 99 per cent of the students accepted across all years were in the top 10 per cent of their high school class.

3. University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge operates a collegiate system, much like the University of Oxford. Almost all of the 18,000 students belong to a college or hall, where they have the option to live, study and sleep on site. There are 31 colleges and 150 academic departments at Cambridge.

The university has a long and prestigious history dating back to 1209, when scholars in Oxford fled to Cambridge after clashes with local people. Many famous politicians, cultural figures and scientists spent time in Cambridge, including Isaac Newton and John Harvard, who would go on to found Harvard University.

Every college has unique traditions and all students matriculate in a formal ceremony when arriving at the university.

4. Stanford University

Stanford has generated many start-ups and entrepreneurs and was partly responsible for the development of the surrounding Silicon Valley. Many students go on to achieve great things; 17 Nobel laureates are affiliated with Stanford. The large campus is home to 97 per cent of undergraduates and nearly 700 university buildings, alongside museums, gardens and recreational centres.

There are just under 7,000 undergraduates and 9,000 graduates at the university, with a 7:1 student-to-staff ratio. Research at Stanford has a $1.22 billion budget and more than 5,000 of the projects are externally funded.

5. Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology was founded mid-19th century and has always endeavoured to provide financial aid to students on a needs basis. The very first architecture classes anywhere in the US were taught at MIT. The first female student, Ellen Swallow Richards, was admitted to the chemistry department in 1871. Just two years later, the first international student – from Canada – graduated from MIT. The campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, includes 18 student residences, many gardens and public works of art. Admission to the university is extremely selective; only 8 per cent of applicants won a place in the graduating class of 2019.

10 Inventions That Changed the World

There could not be any development without inventions. Modern world can be called the world of technology, but the way to this title was rather long. Nowadays there are numerous laboratories discovering something new on a daily basis, but there are some inventions that date back centuries, but are still the core of the modern science. Almost all of contemporary discoveries have been based on previous inventions, so we should give credit to those talented inventors, who laid the foundation for our comfort. Let us remember the most crucial inventions and their creators, who paved the way to our easy-going life.

Wheel is one of the most ancient people’s inventions. It is the thing that lets us move nowadays, but became a revolt in manufacturing hundreds of years ago. It is supposed that a wheel was discovered 3,000 years ago by potters and helped to carry different goods. It was a real boost when the wheel was enhanced to the extent that it became a part of the vehicle. The invention of the wheel is a concept that lay grounds for many other inventions we can not live without.

Steam engine invention can be called a key to our modern transportation and industries. Though we use more developed engines nowadays, all of them work in the same way – burning fuel is conversed into kinetic energy. James Watt is considered to be a leading inventor of steam engine, but there are numerous successors, who were improving it decade after decade. This invention had a dramatic impact on the world industry allowing factories to be free from water power, developing coal industry, increasing the speed of trains and becoming a core of modern transportation system.

Electric light is another crucial invention that influenced the development of the mankind. Thomas Edison managed to invent a light bulb lasting for 1,500 hours, while William David Coolidge is credited as the inventor of incandescent bulb familiar to us.

Telephone is one more revolutionary idea for people’s communication. Though the idea of it is rather simple, it took many years to realize it in real life. Michael Faraday, Johann Reis, Alexander Graham Bell have worked on the telephone equipment and the last inventor managed to reach his target and even founded the first telephone company. This company is also regarded to have developed the first mobile phones for police and later set the pace for cells development.

The television set has greatly changed the world with its appearance. Though all people think that black and white TV is considered to be the first public television, color moving images did not follow behind and appeared before full functionality of black-and-white TV sets. Their appearance changed the way of life of many people, who changed their habits forever in favor of interesting and exciting TV programs.
