On 19 February 2013, the prototype ofGovData- the national data portal - went online, providing citizens and businesses with easier access to and reuse of administrative data. The portal will be continuously evaluated through testing. The decision about whether the portal is going to continue will be made in 2014 after consultation with the federal states. Initially, it will offer environmental, geographical and statistic data as well as data from the existing national open data portals. Gradually, new data will be made available. The portal has been developed by FOCUS, the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems on behalf of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, in coordination with the federal state ‘Open Government’ working group.
