The education club is proposing a new club for all interested in the education field
-
The mission of the club is to strive to connect with educators by mentoring, advocating and being of service.
-
There are currently about 14 members who are interested and they happen to all be education majors.

Laws and bylaws have been written

Vice President become the President elect the following year

Johnson: The challenges that they have seen so far are assessing meeting times for the Juniors and Seniors to meet however, there is a high interest rate and the expectation for a robust membership numbers.

Senator Twilley: Will the club be reaching out to teacher primarily at Gordon or in Lamar County?
-
Dr. Johnson’s response: Both, the students will serve as service ambassadors.

The club is looking to have a Christmas wish list, Toys for Tots, and a T-Shirt Sale
-
They have already done a program called RST which is the distribution of 60 books to economically deprived families which encourages children to read
-
Senator Parks: Will students become familiar with officials of the system
-
Dr. Mahan’s response: Yes, the students are required to do student teaching in their senior year of the program and while they are doing that they are involved in the school district of their choosing. This allows the students to become familiar with officials as well as rules and codes of conduct in the system.

Each student will complete a total of 1000 hours within the school.

Gay-Straight Alliance

Club Advisor: Dr. Cortney Grubb

Mission: For the acceptance of the gay community and making an alliance with the straight community. Creating an all-inclusive environment letting all know that this is a safe haven

Purpose: To educate students of the LGBT community

Supporting them in coming to terms with coping and coming out

Projects in the near future: Diversity conference, awareness months

In the Spring 2017 there will be a “Secret Shopper” experience in the library

Sharon Lloyd: The Student Government Conference Room and Club Room are available for club meetings

Updates: No one has submitted a video for the video contest

To add a twist to the contest, whoever gets the most flyers and contestant to enter the contest they will win an extra $75 stipend.
