3. Kinetic Model of the Residue Hydrotreating Unit 

In this paper, the reaction process is modeled with a two-parallel reactors model: an HCR and a 

user-defined PFR. For the HCR, the lighter petroleum hydrogenation process is simulated using the 

built-in residue oil hydrogenation reaction network with 97 lumps. For the PFR, the heavy asphaltene 

hydrogenation process is modeled with the six-lump kinetic model. Figure 2 macroscopically 

illustrates the reaction mechanism utilized in this paper.
