1.2. Charles Dickens and his biography.
Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, Nicholas Nickleby, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, and Great Expectations are just a few of the well-known classic books by British author Charles Dickens, who was also a writer, editor, illustrator, and social commentator. Dickens is regarded as one of the 19th century's most significant and influential authors. He has received praise for, among other things, painting a bleak picture of the Victorian underclass and so assisting in social transformation. Charles John Huffam Dickens was born on February 7, 1812, in Portsmouth, an English port city on the south coast. The second of eight kids, the renowned British author. John Dickens, his father, was a naval clerk with aspirations of becoming wealthy. Elizabeth Barrow, Charles' mother, wanted to work as a teacher and school administrator. Despite his parents' best efforts, the household was nevertheless indigent. Nevertheless, at the beginning they were content. They relocated to Chatham, Kent, in 1816, where the young Dickens and his siblings were free to roam the countryside and see Rochester's historic castle. The Dickens family relocated to Camden Town, a deprived area of London, in 1822. By that point, the family's financial condition had become critical as a result of John Dickens' risky habit of living beyond the limits of the household. Charles was just 12 years old in 1824 when John was ultimately imprisoned for debt. Dickens was obliged to drop out of school after his father was imprisoned in order to work at a boot-blacking factory next to the Thames. Dickens worked in the dilapidated, vermin-infested factory, labeling pots of "blacking," a material used to clean fires, for six shillings a week. The best he could do to support his family was what he did. Dickens stated that he questioned "how [he] could be so easily tossed aside at such a young age" when reflecting on the experience. He considered it as the time he said farewell to his childhood innocence. He thought that the grownups who were supposed to look after him had abandoned and betrayed him. Later, his writing would frequently return to these ideas. Dickens was relieved to be allowed to return to school after learning that his father had received a family bequest and had paid off his obligations with it. Dickens' education was again interrupted when he was 15 years old. He was forced to leave school in 1827 and find employment as an office boy in order to help support his family. In the end, the position served as a springboard for his literary career.
