 (2005) analysed the inter district variation in the levels of 

income  and  human  development  in  Tamil  Nadu  for  the  year  1997  –  98.  They  also 

analysed  the  causes  of  the  relatively  low  levels  of  income  of  some  districts.  For  this 

purpose,  used  the  district  level  data  on  per  capita  income  and  other  indicators  and 

constructed the HDI. They concluded that there are considerable inequalities in income 

and disparities in the levels of human development among the districts in Tamil Nadu 

and also income disparity was higher than disparity in human development.
