Essential words for writing and speaking

Interaction –
an occasion when two or more people
or things communicate with
or react to each other.
Language games are usually intended to encourage student interaction.

an emergency situation in which people are not allowed to freely

Insurrection –
an organized attempt by a group
of people to defeat their
government and take control of their country, usually by violence.

Conduit –
someone or something that provides a way of passing something such
as information or payments from one person to another.
The social media platform has served as a conduit for misinformation.
7.
Stingy –
unwilling to spend money; small in amount.
Some bankers are stingy in lending to small businesses.

Counter –
to react to something with an opposing opinion or action, or to defend
yourself against something.
Extra police have been moved into the area to counter the risk of violence.

Substantive –
important, serious, or related to real facts.
Substantive research on the subject needs to be carried out.

Consult with –
to discuss something with someone before you make a decision.
This afternoon the president was consulting with his advisers.

Vague –
not clearly expressed, known, described, or decided.
I do have a vague memory of meeting her many years ago.

Accountable –
someone who is accountable is completely responsible for what
they do and must be able to give a satisfactory reason for it:
Politicians should be accountable to the public who elected them.
13.
Amplify –
to increase the size or effect of something.
A funeral can amplify the feelings of regret and loss for the relatives.
14.
Harassment –
behavior that annoys or upsets someone.
The law can now protect people from harassment.
15.
Goodwill –
part of a company's value that includes things that cannot be directly
measured, for example, its good reputation or its customers' loyalty.
The company's total assets are worth £200 million, plus goodwill.
16.
Forthcoming –
happening soon.
A host of celebrities have been invited to the forthcoming opening of the new
restaurant.
