It is this duality that torments Yakup Kadri throughout his literary life.
He is well acquainted with French literature, he admires Homer, he translates Horace 
and at the same time he marvels at the poetry of the mystics whose language he 
believes exemplify the expression of the Turkish psyche

mythological and biblical analogies drawn from his western style education which he 
juxtaposes with others drawn from the folk and mystic tradition.
